Attempting to be as objective as possible, I think that both John McCain and Barack Obama “scored” similarly in tonight’s debate.
What’s more important and what is not yet clear, is if the candidates reached their target audience: the still undecided voter.
It’s difficult for me to understand the thinking of the self-reporting undecided voter. Simply because the differences between Barack Obama and John McCain are so dramatic; their stands on the issues are at opposite ends of the spectrum; their personalities and temperaments are such polar opposites and their visions for the future of The United States of America are so radically different.
I hope the undecided voters watched tonight’s debate with care. I hope they go to the McCain-Palin website and the Obama-Biden website. I hope they explore each candidate’s stand on the issues. The United States of America deserves no less.

I have never understood this apathy that exists among some people and that's all you can really call people who are undecided in such a clearcut competition! If I was there I would be with you all the way. Vote people vote!! May the best man (Obama) win!!!
Hi Ronnie -
Apathy Sucks!!!
Thank you for your attention to and interest in this campaign. It means a lot to me. Especially since South Africa has been going through so much political upheaval of late. I hope all things work to good for you, with the transitions which are taking place at the top levels in your government!

Hello Lee. You are so correct in your statements regarding the major differences in these candidates. I, however, don't believe that there are that many undecided voters out there. I believe that there are a lot of voters who are, for various reasons, unwilling to express thier true feelings and positions. They will only make it known when they are safely in the voting booth.
Important debate - got that.
Mindless nonsense - you have a well? well two in fact... a well?

Hi Kent -
That's an intriguing theory. I have really been puzzling over the self reporting undecided. After reading some of the interviews with them after the debate, I began to wonder if they weren't so much undecided as afraid to declare; possibly afraid of being "wrong" (choosing the eventual loser) or being declared "wrong" by those around them. Your statement fits in with my musings.
I'm looking forward to the Vice Presidential debate. I hope both individuals live up to expectations!

Hi Roo -
I see you've been catching up with my posts!
About the wells; we actually have three on the property. Two are in use as I described. The third is a really old dug well out behind the barn, which was most likely "retired" when the second dug well was connected to the electric indoor pump and tank.
Thankfully, our drilled well was installed before we moved in. It is sufficiently deep that we had water even during a very bad drought several years ago - the dug well ran dry.
Our town does have some limited water and sewer lines, but most of us are responsible for our own private drilled wells and septic systems. Land can't be sold over here as a "buildable lot" unless it can pass a "perc" / percolation test. That means the soil has to drain properly to allow a functional septic system to be installed.
Because we're directly responsible for our own water and septic, it keeps us aware of how precious and fragile the whole ecosystem and mechanical systems are. Whenever a new home is built in our area, the thought crosses my mind: "Uh oh, another "straw" is dipping down into "our" aquifer!"

P.S. Love the quif!
Thanks Lee! It is an interesting time for us as well.. I can't wait to see how it all works out. HOpefully for the best of our entire nation not just those at the top.
Lotsa luv
