“I Thought That You Might Like To Know...”

”It was twenty years ago today...”

Oh my!

It was actually forty years ago today that The Beatles’ album “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band” was released in the U.S.! That was just one day after the U.K. release. I know I’m dating myself, but I remember the years before that when The Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. I remember our family racing home from Sunday dinner out at the “The Great House” restaurant in Warwick, Rhode Island to get home in time to watch them on TV. We took off in such a rush, we left the doggie bag of sticky buns (wasn’t it sticky buns, Gail?) on the table!

The Beatles were great. Their music is still great. The Sgt. Pepper’s album really holds up over these two score years. And I don’t think that’s just nostalgia talking.

“It’s wonderful to be here
It’s certainly a thrill... “

Well my husband being from the UK and all is a HUGE Beatles fan. Between he and his brother they have every single album recorded so far.
I grew up listening to my mum's vinyl records. The Beatles Red Album babysat me for many a year and it will always remind me of my childhood.
'I once had a girl,
Or should I say,
She once had me...'

Hmm you see, I was born in 1961 so the whole Beatles thing passed me by. I grew up being influenced buy my brother's music as he is 12 years older than me, so I grew up with Yes, Cat Stevens, Genesis, Steeleye Span, Nick Drake etc.

PR, where abouts is hubby from originally?

Hey Ronnie-
I know it's trite, but no matter when we first became aware of The Beatles, they really are part of the soundtrack of our lives. So glad it brings up happy memories for you!

Hey Roo-
The only one on the list I'm not familiar with is Nick Drake. But Cat Stevens, well, he was the first big concert I ever went to. In 1975 or 76, four of us went to see him at the Providence Civic Center in Rhode Island. My ears are still recovering! It was truly awesome. All four of us were completely "unimpaired", unlike our neighbors in the audience. And we loved the innovative, new fangled videos that played behind Cat while he performed live!!!
Thanks for sending me back down memory lane!

Hey B2B-
I'm completely envious you saw The Beatles in concert! Very cool!!! You must have been a very little kid at the time. Way to start early with the best of the best music!

Hi Gail -
Well, yes, I suppose I was asking you to reach back forty years or so to remember if it was sticky buns we left behind at the Great House!!!
Maybe I should ask Mom, as I think the loss of the sweets was of greater impact on her than The Beatles being on The Ed Sullivan Show was to us!
