Home

We came back home yesterday after our getaway to Acadia and Bar Harbor. The good news is that in tonight’s heavy rain with gusty winds, our new roof is keeping us snug and dry. More good news is that Roger managed to raise the barn floor nearly all the way back up in Chuck’s workshop. But the bad news is that the main support beam which runs under the entire barn is in trouble. It’s in sufficient trouble that we’re grateful the workshop floor gave way - a sort of canary in the coal mine. To be on the safe side, we have to keep the car out of the barn until the rest of the repairs can be made. We’re hoping that we can get everything set to rights by the end of this week.

So if we had a spare 1.495 million dollars just laying around, maybe we’d buy the “last lot on Shore Path” in Bar Harbor, Maine. Of course then we’d still need to check under the sofa cushions for loose change so as to build a house on that last lot. But think of the view. I know I’m thinking of that view right now...

Ah the joys of home ownership, welcome back.
We too, found some places we could cheerfully spend several million dollars on during our trip - dreams eh?

gorgeous!!!!!

Ever considered Georgia????

We actually have A/C everywhere and the best part is a day like today, starting out in the 40s and by 3 it should be in the low 70s. I am typing in shortsleeves and shorts, ya gotta love it!

Hi DMM -
Thanks for the welcome back!
I think if we weren't watching our little nest egg dwindle daily and hadn't just laid out for the new roof, we'd be taking everything more in stride - even a wonky support beam in the barn!

Whenever we are up in Bar Harbor we daydream a bit about home ownership up there. Of course, we always want the ocean front place with the stunning view. What's the saying? Champagne tastes on a beer budget!!!

Hi Gail -
It really is even more gorgeous in person!

As for Georgia, I know you adore it and from the photos and your enthusiastic description,s I can see why! But I would truly miss four seasons - well five, if you count mud season, but I wouldn't miss mud season!

And, as I've said before, the notion of central air conditioning is very tantalizing - especially in the midst of of stick-icky New England summers!

Oh wow - that's gorgeous! You'd have to expect lots of visitors though!!! Financially, it looks a lot like the plot I wanted to buy on the beach front not too far away from home (about 20 minutes). That probably converts to around the same price as yours... Always nice to have dreams and goals :)

Hi Sue -
You're right about the visitors - as proven by my photograph!
And yes, I believe we both had our eyes on comparable dream properties!
