How Did I Get So Lucky?

This is a different sort of digitally scrapped page than what I have shared here previously. It has only five layers and uses one photo of Chuck as a young boy, in two different ways. (Wasn’t he cute as a button?) On the larger image I reduced the opacity so it could serve as the canvas. The journaling is heartfelt. In many ways, this page comes closest to what I have looked forward to creating digitally.

Layout by LMR/Pink Granite. Photo from family collection. Software: Apple iPhoto 5 & Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 for Mac. Frame: Jessica Sprague’s Grunge Frame 1 (available at her blog). Transparency: Street Grunge - Scratches Transparency by Brandy Hackman (available at Scrap Girls). Font: Courier New, bold

Hi Pink - we have many things in commong including, food, digital art, John Mayer, Neil Diamond and Acadia. I just honeymooned there with my wonderful (2nd) husband. I have a question for you... I found you when I googled "Pink Granite." Have you ever tried to purchase a small slab of the granite from Acadia. We noticed quarries there but did not see the granite for sael in shops. I'd absolutely LOVE one for my kitchen!

Hi Jen,
Congratulations and best wishes on your recent marriage! You two started off on the right foot by honeymooning up in Maine!
I've never purchased Pink Granite from Maine, so I don't have a source to give you. But I agree it would be fabulous not only visually, but for the lasting memories as well.
If I can find a source, I'll post it here.
Thanks for stopping by!

Lee,

The technical execution is tops!
The emotional content is 'OFF THE CHART'!

You can just sense that this young boy grew into goodness.

Oh, btw, I'm stealing your composition idea for a powerpoint presentation I'm putting together.
How shameless is that?

Peace,
"Guided by the Ancestors"

Hi George -
Wow! Thank you so much for your high praise! I truly appreciate it!
I'm delighted and flattered, you will be springboarding off a piece I am so happy with!
I hope the PowerPoint presentation is a success. May I ask if it's part of your photography work or your genealogical work?

P.S. He really did grow up into goodness...

Hi Lee,

Actually both.

In the works is a presentation to middle schoolers about genealogy and family history.

I hope to incorporate some of my actual photography as background to my Ancestors' images.

I don't want to bore the be-jesus out of the children; so there won't be any pie charts or bullet statements or anything that smells of corporate or institution or schooool. LOL

Yup, got to keep the buggers interested!

Peace,
"Guided by the Ancestors"

Hi George -
Your presentation sounds great! I'm sure it will be both educational and spark an interest in the kids. I hope lots of them head home to ask lots of questions of their elders! I was a young teenager when I sat down with my grandparents and parents to sketch out a family tree. Decades later, it is still a valuable resource.
Have fun and good luck!!!

Hi B2B -
Thanks so much! It has always struck us as an unusually good photo in that it captured both a moment and his personality!

And thank you for the Granite Supplier link! I'm amazed the way you can sort through the site by country, color and stone! The variety is enormous.
