Work & Play

You know I love all of the Apple products I use. That said, I was convinced that I did not need to upgrade our existing iLife and iWork software packages. All that changed when I watched Philip Schiller do the 2009 MacWorld Keynote Address where Apple rolled out all the gee whiz, holy cow, bells and whistles of the the iLife ’09 and iWork ’09 editions. It didn’t take long before I wanted them. By the end of the presentation I felt I really, truly needed them both!

iWork is where Pages, Numbers and Keynote all live (documents, spreadsheets and presentations). iLife is where iPhoto, iMovie, Garage Band, iWeb and iDVD all live. I’ll note just one amazing new feature: facial recognition within iPhoto. Yup. With just a few clicks, iPhoto will seek and find all the photos of whomever you choose. Suddenly you have a folder of all the photos of little Susie or Tommy, making sorting through photos for digital scrapbooking much easier.

i am so done with my d*ll PC. on new years day i wandered into the apple store. i spent about 45 minutes chatting up the very friendly and knowledgeable sales gal. i had a mac about 100 thousand years ago. yes, i had a macIIe. then i had a IIci. then i fell into the PC world. my ex-was a mac support specialist so we had a powerPC at home. i loved that.

as i talked with the girl and she showed me all the cool things in iLife and iWork i made my decision. i am SO buying a macbook. for $1599 i get the easy of the mac combined with the flexiblity to save those pages documents as word for the people that are still using MS Office.

now i just need to save up enough to get it. i can't wait!

Hi Wendy -
Some computer things I'm very comfortable with - others leave me befuddled! Your new blog skin was so pretty I wished I could figure out how to substitute a pretty digital paper for my midnight blue background. But I dread the possibility of losing any of the posts, links, etc. on my blog.

Hope you win the Mac!!!

Hi B2B -
For many years Chuck taught Microsoft based software. So when it came time for us to buy a new personal computer, we naturally looked at all the big names. But none of them were really jumping out at me. On a whim, I went to the Apple website and suddenly I got excited and knew we had found our new computer. That was nearly four years ago and it was an excellent decision!

Chuck still enjoys working in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) on our Apple, but we continually use more and more Apple software - all of it easily!

I hope your piggy bank reaches the goal amount very soon!

Hi Roo -
I won't call you a Philistine. I'll work from the first book of the Bible and hold out an "Apple" to you and urge you to "try it, you'll like it"!!!
