Our 44th President

Here is the video from earlier this morning of President-Elect Barack Obama’s speech.

“If there is anyone out there who doubts that America is a place where anything is possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.”

“And, above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation, the only way it's been done in America for 221 years -- block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand. What began 21 months ago in the depths of winter cannot end on this autumn night.
This victory alone is not the change we seek. It is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were.
It can't happen without you, without a new spirit of service, a new spirit of sacrifice.
So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism, of responsibility, where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves but each other.”

I keep getting gooseflesh everytime I listen to his speeches. Congrats I am so happy you got the result you wanted. Lets hope he can help to make it a more peaceful, greener world. You must have celebrated through the night. I just have not seen what the poll turnout was yet, that is going to be interesting. Fiona xx

As I read Brown vs. Board of Education this week in my Constitutional Law class, I cannot help but be stunned silent by how far we have come as a nation. Just a few decades ago it took the highest court in the land to force vehemently unwilling states and American citizens to recognize that separate was not equal.

Last night, I watched as all colors and creeds said, of their own accord and with their own voice, that a black man can run this country. And run it well. I know every pundit, every reporter will be commenting on the history of this election, but it cannot be overstated. We were at a crossroads on November 4, and we chose the right path.

Hi Fiona -
You're right, this is the result I wanted!
And I share your hope that with his leadership we can make this a more peaceful, greener world. Although Purple Ronnie's post on her blog does put the enormity of the task in perspective!

It was very hard to go to sleep. And I admit, when I woke up this morning I quickly flipped on the TV to make sure it was all still true!
Happily it is!!!
Thanks!

Hi Gail -
All that matters now is that we have a new President-Elect Barack Obama and Vice President-Elect Joe Biden!
That is an enormous relief!
Hurray!
Thanks!

I have goosebumps!! He sounds like an amazing leader and I have all my fingers and toes crossed that he doesn't disappoint. There are a lot of people, worldwide, hoping that he follows through on his promises. The world is in need of change. Now, if we could just get him to sit down with our leaders this side...

Hi Carrie -
It was - and still is - amazing!!!
I kept turning to Uncle Chuck and saying/asking "It's real isn't it!?"
I agree about McCain's concession speech. It felt like I was watching the "old" McCain, who I used to think was a pretty good guy.
And you are absolutely correct, we were part of making history. I hope we can continue to participate in some way!

Hi B2B -
We experienced happy dances and tears of joy, as well as tears of exhaustion.

Hi Sue -
We have our fingers and toes crossed as well!
After the last eight years of the United States behaving as it has toward the rest of the world, having such a fine, intelligent, well intentioned man as our new president must lead to improved relations around the world.
But you're right the pressure is tremendous!
