Quality

A brief rant:
One should not use the word quality alone when one wishes to praise someone or something. In such instances the word quality requires a modifier, such as high or good or excellent.
Thank you.

  1. Also, it's unique or it isn't unique. It's NEVER quite unique or rather unique or anything else.

    Hi Gail -
Lately, I've been hearing it used alone quite frequently as in "He's a real quality pitcher." or "We'll be looking for quality candidates to fill the position." I reflexively ask the question in my mind "Pray tell, what sort of quality do you mean?"

It's not quite as wince inducing as "irregardless", "aks" for ask or "ath-a-lete", but it's in my top ten!

  5. Hi Gail -
Yes, for some reason rightwingers have staked out nuke-u-ler as their personal point of pride. Perhaps they think they sound "folksy" if they sound uneducated.
I haven't run across Pap-a-rika. I wonder if it's a regional thing where you live now?

Then of course there is "obnoxious". After what, three or four decades, I still hate to hear it.
    Who says I can't hold a grudge?

  7. Hi Kate -
That's one to which I have an involuntary shudder come over me whenever I hear it! Very awkward in social situations!
