The best rates are usually attainable if you put at least 20% down. So on the $250,000 house scenario that would be $50,000 up front! It doesn't take much arithmetic to see that home ownership is already a stretch for the middle class.

Hi Roo -
Your Pink Granitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14868107997163851415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2377770292502261148.post-75723177324071380022011-03-09T05:42:01.060-05:002011-03-09T05:42:01.060-05:00Our standard bond term is 20 years over here. We can go up to a 30 year bond without much hassle, but it doesn't make too much difference in the monthly repayments. Personally, I'd like to have my bond paid off as soon as possible!!Suehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17457645322337576877noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2377770292502261148.post-45822549659289362022011-03-08T09:16:37.005-05:002011-03-08T09:16:37.005-05:00I just had to swing over and say Thank you for the...I just had to swing over and say Thank you for the sweet encouragement of Not Smoking on Cathy's Blog:) Another day without it:)cynthiahttp://cynthiafriesehassanein.typepad.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2377770292502261148.post-87705354048470823922011-03-07T14:36:54.140-05:002011-03-07T14:36:54.140-05:00We have a lifetime tracker mortgage, which tracks ...We have a lifetime tracker mortgage, which tracks the Bank Of England base rate, with a 1% point above it. However we are lucky (in as much as we can be at the moment) as while interest rates are so low, we are paying the same amount each month, and paying the mortgage off quicker.

My sister Angie has just paid hers off, and good for her! ;o)Roohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05461047629458639072noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2377770292502261148.post-7347208921834164192011-03-07T05:59:58.625-05:002011-03-07T05:59:58.625-05:00Both our mortgages were for 25 years, but I get wh...Both our mortgages were for 25 years, but I get what your're saying.
